"When I am at Chautauqua, I open all the windows in my brain. I fill my mind, heart, eyes and ears. I'm not there to produce; I'm there to take in. I thrive on Chautauqua's magical intensity."
----- Letty Pogrebin, former editor, Ms. Magazine, and Chautauqua Platform speaker
Chautauqua’s recreation pillar touches every corner of our community, embracing people of all ages and covering a wide diversity of interests and skill levels. Indeed, it is essential to the Chautauqua experience. Recreation serves the needs of families, it fosters lifelong learning, it nurtures relationships, it re-connects us to the natural world and it feeds our souls.
Recreation at Chautauqua is enhanced by our location on Chautauqua Lake. Nestled in a rural setting and natural environment, our focus is on pursuit of skills and enjoyment in lifelong activities.
Fitness Center
For more than 130 years, the Chautauqua Institution has provided opportunities to enrich the mind, body and spirit. Chautauqua Health & Fitness Center continues that tradition. Its staff is dedicated to helping you succeed, whatever your health and fitness goals: weight loss, increased flexibility, sports training, muscle toning, medical rehabilitation, stress reduction or general fitness and conditioning. We are pleased to provide this resource to both our summer visitors and our surrounding year-round community.
