The Gambles are just two of the many Chautauqua Fund volunteers who’ll be generously giving their time and money this summer in the hopes that they’ll recruit more volunteers and community members to support the Institution’s programs and scholarships.

"It’s just one way for us to contribute to the breadth and diversity of the programs here," said Mr. Gamble. "The annual fund serves as subsidy, because the cost of gate passes alone doesn’t cover the wide range of programs offered here." During the off season, the Gambles live in Dunedin, Fla. They have one daughter who visits Chautauqua on occasion. Mr. Gamble, now retired, worked in the manufacturing industry and most recently for a medical device company. Mrs. Gamble is the president of the board of directors for the Dunedin Fine Arts Center.

This summer, the Chautauqua Center for Visual Arts Council will benefit from her artistic background and experience, as she plans on joining them. She’s particularly happy with the improvements that were made on the Arts Quadrangle because it’s "exciting to see they’re making progress." Last year, the artistry of the CLSC banner had a lot to do with Mrs. Gamble, who helped to make it. "I was particularly proud to be a part of that," she said. One of the factors that lured the Gambles back to the Institution after their first visit was that they met so many "interesting people" who have since become their friends — which is part of the beauty of Chautauqua; its ability to create an atmosphere that allows people to form lifelong friendships and connect with others on various levels in meaningful ways.
